Have you ever looked at a painting and felt a calmness wash over your body? The warm textures and soft colors are often mesmerising, and make us feel at ease. In this class, you will learn how to create peaceful illustrations using the Procreate app on the iPad

The Advantages of Digital Drawing

Digital drawing is best for beginning artists. While it is difficult and expensive to find and purchase various art materials when drawing or painting by hand, through hundreds of digital brushes, you can make your illustration look however you want!

Additionally, with digital drawing, you don’t have to worry about mistakes . All you gotta do is press the undo button, and the mistake you made earlier? Gone. There is no more burden of making mistakes and having to start all over again.

Here’s what you’ll learn in class

Step 1: How to use Procreate

Using a program to draw requires different skills from drawing or painting by hand. I’ll walk you through the Procreate interface and its basic functions. Throughout the class, I will introduce you to some more advanced techniques to help you create a more variety of illustrations.

Step 2: How to draw shapes and sketch

Sometimes the most difficult part is the sketch. Without good focus, things can often seem too difficult to draw. In class, I’ll show you how to simplify drawings into simple shapes, then fill in smaller elements to create a more detailed sketch.

Step 3: How to color

Coloring gives our illustrations life. From a beautiful blend of many colors, to the expression of light and shadows, we will add color to our sketches. By the end of class, you will have mastered the techniques to composing and adding color to create a more vivid frame.

Step 4: Completing Illustrations

The illustrations we will draw fit into two categories: still-life illustrations and landscape art. You will combine everything that you learn into 7 works of art.

In addition to the thorough curriculum, I have created 15 custom brushes for all of my students. These special brushes will help you express different types of textures that you are unable to with the basic brush sets on Procreate.

Throughout the class, I hope that you will start to appreciate art and drawing more and more. Although the class is centered around my drawing style, as you draw more and more, you will surely see your own style start to shine through your artwork. And that is one of the biggest steps to becoming an artist!
